In residential construction safety doesn’t seem to be a very hot topic. I come from the commercial construction world where safety is #1. Making sure each team member goes home safe to their family is a big topic and these companies spend millions of dollars on training and equipment to make sure of it. Once I became a residential general contractor I noticed this would be one of my biggest hurdles. How do I get people who have never thought about safety to care about it? You have to set a standard and not stray from it.

You have to be a leader, you have to put safety first. At first these individuals will be upset they have to tie off or build leading edge railings but, as time goes on they will respect that you truly care about their well being and making sure they make it home safely. Put rules in place about safety and don’t deviate from that plan. Safety rules.
