You Don’t Need to Know Everything—You Just Need to Start

When I started in construction, I didn’t know what a division was. I’d sneak into the bathroom to Google construction terms so no one would see how lost I was. I was 35, surrounded by 23-year-olds fresh out of construction management school, and I felt like an imposter.

But here’s the truth: You don’t need to know everything. You just need to start.

As an entrepreneur, the hardest part is often taking that first step—especially when you feel unqualified. I wasn’t a contractor with decades of field experience. I was a business owner with a background in sales and operations, trying to figure out how to run a construction company. What I lacked in technical knowledge, I made up for with determination, curiosity, and a willingness to learn.

I didn’t let my lack of knowledge stop me. I asked questions. I watched YouTube videos. I learned by doing. And now, I run a successful construction business, not because I was the smartest person in the room, but because I was willing to show up and learn.

Entrepreneurship isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about being resourceful enough to find them. In construction, there’s always something new to learn—a new building code, a new technique, a new challenge on-site. The same applies to business. You’re never “done” learning, and that’s a good thing.

So, if you’re waiting for the “perfect moment” or until you “know enough,” stop. You’ll never feel 100% ready. Start where you are. Learn as you go. Ask the questions. Make the mistakes. And trust me—you’ll figure it out along the way.

The key to success isn’t knowing everything—it’s having the courage to begin.

Sure, I'll create the first blog post for Episode 2 based on your instructions. Once you review it, I can proceed with the next two.
