I used to have an old boss in commercial construction who said “when on site, walk with purpose.” He meant when you’re on a construction project taking a walk, go with specific scopes of completed or in progress work you’re looking for. Don’t just walk the site to walk it, walk it with purpose. Go with the intend of looking at the rebar layout or the pocket door just installed. Have something specific in mind you’re looking to observe, this way you will be focused on someone’s quality of work. As the general contractor you are the quality control, if you walk with purpose your QC will become much more efficient and effective. If you’re going to walk the construction site, walk with purpose.
